Hi All,
This was one of the amazing adventure experience I have done till date. Below is a brief summary of the experience and the link for the snaps
8 Guys from various professions, with varying waistlines and varying cycling speeds had just one aim for 11 days….. Complete 800 km cycling through the Spiti valley from Shimla to Manali.
The target of these 8 youngsters from Bangalore was to cycle 800kms to reach Manali on 8/8/8. And we did it in great style. The cycles were all Trek 3100, black bikes. Good sturdy bikes with a total puncture count of just 4…. A good figure considering the rough terrain. We accomplished the feat in 11 days as per the plan cycling across rugged terrains, all day rains and camping in sub-Zero temperatures. In doing so we crossed two major passes, Kunzum-la @ 4551 Meters and Rohtang @ 4000 Meters altitude.
Camping by the Chander-Taal Lake and stargazing with a hot cup of tea was a lifetime experience. Landscapes: ‘Sorry, No words to comment, please see the pictures’
The serene lake at Nako, the 1000 year old monastery at Tabo and the cute kids shouting 'Jhule' was worth all effort. As one says "Behind every pleasure there's a pain", we had our share of obstacles as well. Body cramps, headaches, sunburns, nausea, moments when we felt why we were doing this, moments of breathlessness, times when we thought…. "That's it...”. But what kept us going were 3 things, the nature, the togetherness and the spirit of 'Just do it'.
One might wonder what we had as food for these 11 days. Thanks to Raju, our guide and his team comprising cooks and a couple of helpers…
We had the entire sub-continental menu at our disposal. From kharabath, tomato rasam to parathas, biryanis and a birthday cake too. Lunch was strictly restricted to boiled potatoes, boiles eggs, paratha roll, a munch chocolate, an apple and some dry fruits. Couple in our team wouldn’t have celebrated wilder birthdays.
Do let me know if you need more details about the trip or if you would like to join us next time. Btb, we did all this with 30% less oxygen and 100% more determination.
Thanks to Nikhil & Rohan (bumsonthesaddle.com) for arranging the packing material.
